I STAND
by K. B. Johnson © Winter, 2017
(Insprired by actual events)

My innocence abused;
My coming of age bullied;
My manhood sullied;
All by the confused.

My blackness profiled and targeted;
My name diffused and slandered;
My body poisoned, tarred and feathered
All by a community engendered.

Yet, I stand.

With declaration of no weaknesses
For my sins embraced
My vices acknowledged
And righted wrongs well placed
I have looked in the mirror to ask
"Is it me?"
And with clarity…

I stand.

My anger simmered;
My heart emblazed;
My fear tempered;
All by the mind unfazed.

So I stand…

At the ready
To go toe to toe with the wicked
Coming out the wood works
Making America great again
The lot of them actin' like jerks.

Jumping on the agitated bandwagon
Tryin' to bring me down with ill static
What?
Wanna make me manic?
Nah, son, not here.
Still I just have to laugh at clowns.

Five years—nope, going on six
Playing the psychological game
Not realizing selling the myth of white supremacy
Only gives me notoriety and fame
So I nullify that brand of clemency

Just accept it
I am an equal
The reaction is to wanna hit?
Don't or it'll be "I have a dream", the sequel
Which will have red faces blowing off steam
Cause of the different scripted promised
Having spotted that loose thread
I'll pull everything apart from the seam
(Test me more if you like.)

So I say a few things in privacy
Then comes the public spur
Proving the conspiracy to stir
And for what?
Indoctrination
Or my self-annihilation?
Nah.

Here's an idea:
Leave me alone
Oh, but wait
Coming after my starred trilogy
We not of Tennesse
So is none of my friends and family
Forcing them to throw a stones
At me?
Why should I not take this to the next century?

Attacked my mom on Mother's Day?
That's a line for no one to cross
But wait…I'm only hearing crickets now
Nothing to say, Boss?

Wanna temp me with a possible next wife?
Thinking T&A is my sluice.
I choose who I love
And when to jet my juice.
My existence is my life.

If I have to say it again
Which I know I said it a lot:
Leave me alone
And others too
And stop following me around
Especially in the store.
Obvious daddy and mommy didn't love enough
So I don't want any whore.

BTW here's a little FYI
My name ain't Toby
Threatening me with the Big Sky
Cause I don't obey like a pet
With that twisted mind set
Then be talkin' forgive and forget.
No, not just yet.
See, I ain't made for the plantation,
So chill and enjoy that Playstation.

While my healin' takes as long as it need
Despite desire for the planned outcome
A part I won't play
Cause if I make people bleed
They'd only get mad, pray and cry
Asking why
Only to be satisfied by a big ole lie.

But pay attention
I'm trying to help the retention
In this society
Cause it ain't gonna get the best of me
Try as it might

I stand and I fight

I make some nervous
But some should have no worries
For I don't shoot messengers
Cause quite frankly it's pretty sad
When the corrupt fade the luminous
Detaining them as passengers
And forcing them to be glad

Reaching into the shadows I decide
Cause that's where the senders hide
To their surprise:
"Here comes a new challenger"
Roll Tide?
Meet the Saiyan manager
Gonna have Greenpeace hollering MLM
Yeah, mountains will matter
After I level the field
And leave none with no shield

I'm the underdog bringing it strong
The new Negro
Counter-balancing the entitled's bold new face
So shade me with bananas like I'm Kong
But my purpose is to show the way
For racism's bullshit has no place
Cause it's still yesterday.

I am progress
The light of good
So I release stress
To do what I should
Despite the saturation of biased mess
I'm gonna give the world the best of me,
Of my humanity
While being black and keeping my sanity

And like Jesus, I'll bear the state
But there will be no sacrifice
That's not my fate
I am the unbreakable silver plate
For all to look in twice
And see the given hate

See it!
Serving America's rich makers
It won't be so great
When they show themselves as takers
They be the ones to forget,
This here be the land of the free
Can't be clamin' "Don't tread on me"
While giving sanctuary to the KGB.

Listen, I ain't Katie Perry
But hear me roar
As I soar
Taking all on a ride
Cause I own this—
The given experience of the irrational side
Not my fault some play urban safari
What they be thinkin', I don't know
But do I look like calamari?

I am the artist, the writer
And sure your pen is bigger than mine
But I know how to use it
For the betterment of society
See how I'm callin' out duplicity?

And if must I remind
Trying to make me an enemy
May keep me close
But taking a bites of me
Sustains this bind

Now infected
With the potency of a black mind.
Delirium done took over
Giving me the four leaf clover?
You should've kept that
To help with me being selected

Now is it up to me to repair the dishonor
Confrontin' Skynet like I'm John Connor
(WTF?)

Well, if it is a must
Let's wait for the Second Coming
Though I rather be Cumming
In a woman
But not yours
With my full five five
Filling the average depth of flowers
I like to dive
And just to restate
It's not how big
So don't hate
I just throw it down like that
Just ask Kate.

And I don't care what Ma Bell has to say
Shame on all them dudes and women
Showing off femininity like it's a McLaren
Yeah, the female form is a sin
But its soul's name is Karen
And I already knew Wang Mei
From back in the day.

And on that note
Don't play me on Facebook
Cycling profiles like a chameleon
I mean, really
Do you know how you look?
And I'm ignoring the suggested post
Cause Zuckerburg can't explain exactly
Why shouldn't I eat toast?

Since likely this will be online
Thin blue probably gonna swing by my door
Under a fabricated tale
Lookin' to hand out a fine
But all that can be solicited
Is that look
You know,
"Go to Hell!"

Man, this can go on forever
Likely things won't change
And I ain't gonna change—not for you
So just move along
Cause with a yawn, I'm like whatever

And in case you missed the point
Thinkin' I'm obsolete
All this to say,
And please don't get it twisted,
But stage one…
Complete.

With the mic drop from
The hand…

I stand.
