DESOLATION
by K. B. Johnson © Summer, 2006

At one time, I knew you were the one.
At one time, blinded by foolishness, I passed you by.
Now, cold and shivering, having found my way to desolation,
I sit and wonder...

I wonder why I cannot ignore my heart's longing for you.
What seed have you planted within it that infects my thoughts with nothing but you?

I wonder why at times love always seems to be one-sided.
Must I forever suffer with these feelings for which you no longer care to have?

I wonder why I forsook my experience and wisdom for nothing when you would have given me everything.
How can I once again have your warmth surround me with affection and trust?

So I sit, cold and shivering in desolation,
and I wonder...
about you.
